So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king,

王無論諮詢他們甚麼智慧聰明的事、都看出他們比全國所有的學術士和用法術的還勝過十倍。

我就下了諭旨、將巴比倫所有的博士都召到我面前，叫他們把夢的解析告訴我。

到了早晨，法老心裏煩亂，就打發人把埃及所有的學術士和智慧人都召了來；法老將他的夢向他們敘說，卻沒有人能給法老解釋。

於是法老也把智慧人和行邪術的召了來；那些人是埃及的術士；他們也用他們的祕術照樣地行。

王使勁地喊着，吩咐人將那些用法術的、那些迦勒底博學的人、和占卜的、領進來。王應時對巴比倫的博士說：『甚麼人能讀這文字，把它的解析向我講明白的、他就可以穿紫紅色袍，脖子上帶金鍊，在國中掌權、居第三位。』

迦勒底博學的人在王面前回答說：『世界上沒有人能將王所問的事說出來的，因為沒有王、多麼大、多麼有權力、曾經向任何學術士、或用法術的、或迦勒底博學的人、問過這樣事的。

你儘管堅決進行你的符咒吧！進行你幼年所勞碌而行的，進行你許多邪術吧！或者能有用處！或者可以使人戰抖呀！你因你許多計謀而勞累；如今只管讓那些劃分天象、觀看星辰、在月初播知將來之事的、都站起來，救你脫離所要臨到於你的事呀！

在你中間不可有人將兒子或女兒用火燒獻為祭，也不可有占卜的、算命的、觀兆頭的、行邪術的、用迷術的、問交鬼的、行巫術的、過陰的。因為凡行這些事的、都是永恆主所憎惡的；也正是因了這些可厭惡之事的緣故，永恆主你的上帝才把他們從你面前趕出。

有人對你們說：『要求問那些交鬼的和行巫術的，就是那啁啾叫嗡嗡鳴的人。一族之民難道不能求問自己的神、而為活人去求問死人麼？』

埃及人心裏都很狼狽徬徨；我必混亂他們的計謀；他們必求問神明和念念有詞的、交鬼的和行巫術的。
