有禍啊，那些制定奸惡之律例的，和那些忙於記錄毒害人之判語的！

正月十三日王的書記們就被召了來，照哈曼一切所吩咐的，寫下了勅令、給王的眾藩臣，給一省一省的巡撫，給一族一族的首領；一省一省用自己的文字，一族一族用自己的方言；奉亞哈隨魯王的名寫的，又用王的打印戒指蓋上了印的。詔書由跑文書的人經手送到王的各省，說要在一日之間、在十二月、就是亞達月、十三日，將所有的猶大人、無論老少幼小或婦女、全都消滅屠殺滅盡，並且奪取他們的資財作為掠物。詔書本子寫成了勅令，頒到各省，向各族之民披露，叫他們準備好了、等候那一天。跑文書的人領着王命急急忙忙地出發，勅令在書珊宮堡裏頒布出去。王和哈曼坐下來喝酒；書珊城卻慌慌亂亂。

於是大利烏王就把這詔書和禁令簽蓋上了。但以理呢、雖明知有詔書經已簽蓋，他仍進入自己房屋——這房屋在房頂屋子裏、有窗戶開着、向着耶路撒冷——但以理仍然一日三次雙膝跪下、在他的上帝面前禱告稱謝，全照前此所作的。於是那些人彼此串通，發現了但以理通常在他的上帝面前祈禱懇求。他們便前去進謁，在王面前提到王的禁令說：『三十天以內，無論何人、王啊，除了求你以外，若向任何神或任何人求甚麼，就必須給扔在獅子坑中：這一道禁令王不是已簽蓋上了麼？』王回答說：『實在有這道命令，照瑪代波斯人的例、那是永不廢除的。』他們就應時在王面前說：『王啊，猶大被擄的人之中那但以理不尊重你，也不以你所簽蓋的禁令為介意，反而一日三次作他的祈禱呢。』王聽見了這話，就非常難過，立意要解救但以理；他苦思焦慮到日落、要援救他。那些人就彼此串通來見王，對王說：『王啊，你知道瑪代波斯人有一條例：凡王所立的一切禁令和法典都是不可更改的啊。』

那肆行毁滅而居權位者，憑着律例架弄奸惡、
