爾等應知予為爾等及老底嘉同人之故、且為未曾睹面者之故、如何勞心焦思、而為之努力奮鬥也。予之為此、亦欲有以鼓勵同人之心、

請為我向洛底嘉諸兄弟、及寧發與其家中會眾、代祝平安。爾等既閱此書、請即付洛底嘉教會傳閱；另致洛底嘉一書、爾等亦請一閱。

慷慨輸將、惟力是視、甚有超過其力量者；此吾可為之作證也。

吾知若輩非不渴慕天主、特慕之不得其道耳。

爾其寓書於樂底嘉教會之守護天神曰：彼至誠無妄為天主忠實見證、又為天主造化之乾元者、有所曉諭於爾：吾知爾之行實；爾乃不冷不熱者也。吾願爾之全冷或全熱也！今爾半冷半熱、不冷不熱；吾欲將爾嘔而出之！爾自謂富有、綽有餘裕、而無所欠缺；殊不知爾實為百無聊賴、貧窮不堪、盲而裸者。吾勸爾向我購置百煉之金、俾成真富；純白之衣、用掩爾羞；傅目之膏、以啟爾視。

「將爾所見、筆之於書、以寄依弗所、斯米爾納、伯爾加莫、第亞底拉、撒爾底、斐拉代爾非、樂底嘉七教會。」
