They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

Some people make promises in the name of Samaria’s god. That god has led them astray. Others say,‘ People of Dan, you can be sure that your god is alive.’ Still others say,‘ You can be sure that Beersheba’s god is alive.’ But all these people will fall dead. They will never get up again.”

Those who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god lives, O Dan,’ and,‘ As the Way of Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again.”

And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba— they will all fall down, never to rise again.”

Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say,“ As your god lives, Dan,” or,“ As the way of Beer-sheba lives”— they will fall, never to rise again.

As for those who swear by the guilt of Samaria, And say,‘ As your god lives, Dan,’ And,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives,’ They will fall and not rise again.”

But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it,[ and] ground[ it] very small,[ even] until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves[ of] gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till[ there was] no remedy.

And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver,[ and] idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship[ and] that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;

Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which[ the LORD] did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass,[ to wit], for the prophet whom he had brought back.And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told[ it] in the city where the old prophet dwelt.And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard[ thereof], he said, It[ is] the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled[ him].And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him,[ saying], Alas, my brother!And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God[ is] buried; lay my bones beside his bones:For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which[ are] in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became[ one] of the priests of the high places.And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut[ it] off, and to destroy[ it] from off the face of the earth.

And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that[ is] in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Though thou, Israel, play the harlot,[ yet] let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast[ thee] off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long[ will it be] ere they attain to innocency?For from Israel[ was] it also: the workman made it; therefore it[ is] not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land;[ there is] none to raise her up.

And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far[ are] the words of Jeremiah.

Howbeit[ from] the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them,[ to wit], the golden calves that[ were] in Bethel, and that[ were] in Dan.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof[ that] rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

He, that being often reproved hardeneth[ his] neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

And he bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.

Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow.
