你们在世上穷奢极侈，养肥了自己，竟不知屠宰的日子到了。

“人子啊！你要说预言攻击以色列众牧者；你要对他们说预言：‘主耶和华这样说：以色列众牧者有祸了！他们只顾牧养自己。牧者岂不应当牧养羊群吗？你们吃脂油、穿羊毛，宰肥壮的羊，却不牧养羊群。

耶和华这样说：“牧人从狮子口中，只能夺回一双羊腿和一角耳朵；住在撒玛利亚的以色列人获救也是这样，他们只剩下一角床榻，半边褥子（“他们只剩下一角床榻，半边褥子”，这句原文意义不详，或译：“他们躺卧在华丽的床上，睡在铺上绣花毯子的榻上”）。

行事为人要光明磊落，好像行在白昼。不可荒宴醉酒，不可放荡纵欲，不可纷争嫉妒。总要披戴主耶稣基督，不要为肉体安排，去放纵私欲。

“有一个财主，身穿紫色袍和细麻衣，天天奢华宴乐。

看哪！人还是欢喜快乐，宰牛杀羊，吃肉喝酒，说：“我们吃喝吧！因为明天我们就要死了。”

亚比该到了拿八那里，他正在家中摆设筵席，好像帝王的筵席一样。拿八心里畅快，喝得烂醉如泥，所以无论大事小事亚比该都没有告诉他，直到第二天早晨。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子才把这些事告诉他，他就吓得魂不附体，立刻中风瘫痪了。大约过了十天，耶和华击打拿八，他就死了。

那些清早起来，追求浓酒，留连到晚上，以致因酒发烧的人，有祸了！在他们的筵席上，有琴、瑟、手鼓、笛和酒，但他们不理耶和华的作为，也不留心他手所作的。

然后，我要对我的灵魂说：灵魂啊，你拥有许多好东西，足够多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快乐吧！’神却对他说：‘无知的人哪，今天晚上，你的灵魂必被取去，你所预备的要归给谁呢？’

他们的罪孽是出于麻木的心（按照《马索拉文本》，“他们的罪孽是出于麻木的心”应作“他们的眼睛因体胖而凸出”；现参照《七十士译本》翻译），他们心里的恶念泛滥。
