He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the Lord is his name.

The Lord made the Pleiades and Orion. He turns midnight into sunrise. He makes the day fade into night. He sends for the waters in the clouds. Then he pours them out on the surface of the land. His name is the Lord.

He uncovers deep things out of darkness, And brings the shadow of death to light.

“ Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion?Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs?

Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Bound in affliction and irons—Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High,Therefore He brought down their heart with labor; They fell down, and there was none to help.Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses.He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their chains in pieces.

He causes it to come, Whether for correction, Or for His land, Or for mercy.

Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said,“ There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said,“ Go up, say to Ahab,‘ Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’”Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.

“ Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to know its place,That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?

Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians.And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said,“ Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians.”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.”And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained.

I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them.

“ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That an abundance of water may cover you?

You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains.At Your rebuke they fled; At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.They went up over the mountains; They went down into the valleys, To the place which You founded for them.You have set a boundary that they may not pass over, That they may not return to cover the earth.

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”

We grope for the wall like the blind, And we grope as if we had no eyes; We stumble at noonday as at twilight; We are as dead men in desolate places.
