The Lord made the Pleiades and Orion. He turns midnight into sunrise. He makes the day fade into night. He sends for the waters in the clouds. Then he pours them out on the surface of the land. His name is the Lord.

He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is his name;

It is the Lord who created the stars, the Pleiades and Orion. He turns darkness into morning and day into night. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is his name!

“ In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,“ I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.

You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.

He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light.

He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.

to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

The seventh time the servant reported,“ A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said,“ Go and tell Ahab,‘ Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.

“ Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place,that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?

During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said,“ Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.”Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the sea.The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen— the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.

“ Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water?

the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.
