Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.

Then Samuel said to the people,“ Come! Let’s go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.”

Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand, for God is with us.”

You will father sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.

If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.

We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown, yet a wisdom not of this world nor of the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing.

Yahweh brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation. I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings.I will bring the land into desolation, and your enemies that dwell in it will be astonished at it.

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains,“ Cover us!” and the hills,“ Fall on us!”

Those who hate you will be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked will be no more.”
