“ My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord.“ Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

The people are incapable of doing right— this is the LORD’s declaration— those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.

“ For My people are foolish, They do not know Me; They are foolish children And have no understanding. They are skillful at doing evil, But they do not know how to do good.”

And on that day I will punish all who leap on the temple threshold, Who fill the house of their lord with violence and deceit.

Do all the workers of injustice not know, Who devour my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon the Lord?

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the entire land; everyone who steals certainly will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.I will make it go forth,” declares the Lord of armies,“ and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and destroy it with its timber and stones.”

For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

Then I said,“ They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord Or the judgment of their God.

For those who turn justice into wormwood, And throw righteousness to the earth.”

Do horses run on rocks? Or does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison, And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of armies.

Since you have looted many nations, All the rest of the peoples will loot you— Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.“ Woe to him who makes evil profit for his household, To put his nest on high, To be saved from the hand of catastrophe!You have planned a shameful thing for your house By bringing many peoples to an end; So you are sinning against yourself.For the stone will cry out from the wall, And the rafter will answer it from the framework.
