Therefore send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. This man is staying as a guest in the house of Simon the tanner, by the sea.’

While Paul was discussing righteousness, self- control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said,“ Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”At the same time he was also hoping that Paul would give him money, and for this reason he sent for Paul as often as possible and talked with him.

So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence,

Does what is molded say to the molder,“ Why have you made me like this?”Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?But what if God, willing to demonstrate his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath prepared for destruction?And what if he is willing to make known the wealth of his glory on the objects of mercy that he has prepared beforehand for glory–even us, whom he has called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

My hand made them; that is how they came to be,” says the LORD. I show special favor to the humble and contrite, who respect what I have to say.

The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live.May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way!

So the crowds were asking him,“ What then should we do?”

The LORD shows his faithful followers the way they should live.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

For ignoring the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking instead to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

I spread my cloak over you and covered your nakedness. I swore a solemn oath to you and entered into a marriage covenant with you, declares the sovereign LORD, and you became mine.

I have seen their behavior, but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn.

They said,“ Cornelius the centurion, a righteous and God- fearing man, well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear a message from you.”

When Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was absolutely terrified.

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”
