But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.

有個生在塞浦路斯的利未人名叫約瑟，使徒叫他巴拿巴，意思是勸慰者。

主啊，你看他們這樣恐嚇我們，求你幫助你的奴僕們坦然無懼地傳你的道。

在場的人看到彼得和約翰的膽量，又知道他們原是沒有學問的平民百姓，都很驚奇。他們認出這些人跟隨過耶穌，

過了三年，我才到耶路撒冷去拜會彼得，和他一起住了十五天。我也見了主耶穌的弟弟雅各，此外沒有見過其他使徒。

他又到大數去找掃羅，

所以我們一致決定選派代表，隨我們敬愛的巴拿巴和保羅去你們那裡。他們二人為我們主耶穌基督的緣故已將生死置之度外。

當他快到大馬士革的時候，突然有一道光從天上射下來，四面照著他。他倒在地上，聽見有聲音對他說：「掃羅！掃羅！你為什麼迫害我？」他說：「主啊，你是誰？」那聲音說：「我就是你所迫害的耶穌。起來！進城去，有人會告訴你該做的事。」

亞拿尼亞去了，進了那家，就把手按在掃羅身上，說：「掃羅弟兄，在你來的路上向你顯現的主耶穌派我來使你重見光明、被聖靈充滿。」

耶路撒冷教會的人聽到這消息後，就派巴拿巴去安提阿。

便到各會堂去宣講：「耶穌是上帝的兒子。」聽的人都大吃一驚，說：「他不就是那在耶路撒冷迫害信徒的人嗎？他到這裡來不是要把大馬士革的信徒押去見祭司長嗎？」但掃羅越發有能力，引經據典證明耶穌是基督，使大馬士革的猶太人驚慌失措。

保羅和巴拿巴為這件事與他們激烈地辯論，最後大家決定派保羅、巴拿巴和幾個當地的信徒上耶路撒冷去跟使徒和長老討論這件事。

巴拿巴和掃羅把款項送到以後，就帶著約翰·馬可從耶路撒冷回去。

保羅和巴拿巴則繼續留在安提阿，與許多人一起教導、傳揚上帝的道。過了一些日子，保羅對巴拿巴說：「我們回到曾傳過福音的各城鎮去探望弟兄姊妹吧，好知道他們的情況。」巴拿巴想要帶約翰·馬可同去，但保羅堅持不帶他同行，因為他在旁非利亞離開了他們，沒有和他們一起做工。二人激烈地爭執起來，僵持不下，只好分道揚鑣。巴拿巴和約翰·馬可一同乘船去塞浦路斯。

一天，他們正在敬拜主、禁食的時候，聖靈對他們說：「要為我把巴拿巴和掃羅分別出來，好讓他們做我呼召他們去做的事。」

也請你們為我禱告，求上帝賜我口才，讓我勇敢地把福音的奧祕講解明白。我為傳福音成了披枷帶鎖的使者。請你們為我禱告，使我能盡忠職守，放膽傳福音。

其他的猶太基督徒也跟著彼得裝假，甚至連巴拿巴也隨從了他們的虛偽。

當時被譽為教會柱石的雅各、彼得和約翰明白了上帝賜給我的恩典之後，就與我和巴拿巴用右手行相交之禮，讓我們向外族人傳福音，他們向受割禮的人傳福音。

難道只有我和巴拿巴要自食其力嗎？

到最後，竟也向我這好像未按產期出生的人顯現。
