後來，有些人心裏剛硬不信，在眾人面前毀謗這道，保羅就離開他們，也叫門徒與他們分離，便在推喇奴的學房天天辯論。

那時，因為這道起的擾亂不小。

但有一件事，我向你承認，就是他們所稱為異端的道，我正按着那道事奉我祖宗的神，又信合乎律法的和先知書上一切所記載的，

這人已經在主的道上受了教訓，心裏火熱，將耶穌的事詳細講論教訓人；只是他單曉得約翰的洗禮。

腓力斯本是詳細曉得這道，就支吾他們說：「且等千夫長呂西亞下來，我要審斷你們的事。」

並且他在這裏有從祭司長得來的權柄捆綁一切求告你名的人。」

我也曾逼迫奉這道的人，直到死地，無論男女都鎖拿下監。這是大祭司和眾長老都可以給我作見證的。我又領了他們達與弟兄的書信，往大馬士革去，要把在那裏奉這道的人鎖拿，帶到耶路撒冷受刑。」

「那時，我領了祭司長的權柄和命令，往大馬士革去。

哈曼對亞哈隨魯王說：「有一種民散居在王國各省的民中；他們的律例與萬民的律例不同，也不守王的律例，所以容留他們與王無益。王若以為美，請下旨意滅絕他們；我就捐一萬他連得銀子交給掌管國帑的人，納入王的府庫。」於是王從自己手上摘下戒指給猶大人的仇敵－亞甲族哈米大他的兒子哈曼。王對哈曼說：「這銀子仍賜給你，這民也交給你，你可以隨意待他們。」正月十三日，就召了王的書記來，照着哈曼一切所吩咐的，用各省的文字、各族的方言，奉亞哈隨魯王的名寫旨意，傳與總督和各省的省長，並各族的首領；又用王的戒指蓋印，交給驛卒傳到王的各省，吩咐將猶大人，無論老少婦女孩子，在一日之間，十二月，就是亞達月十三日，全然剪除，殺戮滅絕，並奪他們的財為掠物。

當時有稱利百地拿會堂的幾個人，並有古利奈、亞歷山大、基利家、亞細亞各處會堂的幾個人，都起來和司提反辯論。

說：你們審判不秉公義，徇惡人的情面，要到幾時呢？（細拉）你們當為貧寒的人和孤兒伸冤；當為困苦和窮乏的人施行公義。當保護貧寒和窮乏的人，救他們脫離惡人的手。

他用詭計待我們的宗族，苦害我們的祖宗，叫他們丟棄嬰孩，使嬰孩不能存活。

過了三天，保羅請猶太人的首領來。他們來了，就對他們說：「弟兄們，我雖沒有做甚麼事干犯本國的百姓和我們祖宗的規條，卻被鎖綁，從耶路撒冷解在羅馬人的手裏。他們審問了我，就願意釋放我；因為在我身上，並沒有該死的罪。無奈猶太人不服，我不得已，只好上告於凱撒，並非有甚麼事要控告我本國的百姓。因此，我請你們來見面說話，我原為以色列人所指望的，被這鍊子捆鎖。」他們說：「我們並沒有接着從猶太來論你的信，也沒有弟兄到這裏來報給我們說你有甚麼不好處。但我們願意聽你的意見如何；因為這教門，我們曉得是到處被毀謗的。」

他們離了別加往前行，來到彼西底的安提阿，在安息日進會堂坐下。讀完了律法和先知的書，管會堂的叫人過去，對他們說：「二位兄台，若有甚麼勸勉眾人的話，請說。」
