耶穌對他們說：「我跟你們在一起的時候曾經說過，摩西的律法書、先知的書以及詩篇裡有關我的記載都要應驗。」於是，耶穌開啟了他們的心竅，使他們明白這些經文，

耶穌召集了眾人，對他們說：「你們要聽，也要明白。

「當你們看見『那帶來毀滅的可憎之物』站在不當站的地方時（讀者須會意），住在猶太地區的人要逃到山上去；

所以，不要做糊塗人，要明白主的旨意。

你們明白這些事了嗎？」他們回答說：「我們明白了。」

這裡藏有玄機，聰明的人可以計算那怪獸的代號，因為那是一個人的代號，是「六百六十六」。

耶穌說：「我的食物就是遵行差我來者的旨意，完成祂的工作。
