Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.

天主又予之以割禮之約；故亞伯漢既生意灑格、第八日即為之行割禮；意灑格之於雅各伯、雅各伯之於十二族祖、亦復如是。

Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

Then God made a covenant with Abraham. God told him that circumcision would show who the members of the covenant were. Abraham became Isaac’s father. He circumcised Isaac eight days after he was born. Later, Isaac became Jacob’s father. Jacob had 12 sons. They became the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel.

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

“ God also gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision at that time. So when Abraham became the father of Isaac, he circumcised him on the eighth day. And the practice was continued when Isaac became the father of Jacob, and when Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Israelite nation.

And so he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. After this, he fathered Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham fathered Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision. After this, he fathered Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; Isaac did the same with Jacob, and Jacob with the 12 patriarchs.

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so[ Abraham] begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac[ begat] Jacob; and Jacob[ begat] the twelve patriarchs.

Then God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision, and so he became the father of Isaac and circumcised him when he was eight days old, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

And God said to Abraham:“ As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant.He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”

the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.

Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.

“ Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

For this is the word of promise:“ At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac( for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls),it was said to her,“ The older shall serve the younger.”As it is written,“ Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”

When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said,“ The Lord has surely looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me.”Then she conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.She conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.And she conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she stopped bearing.Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob,“ Give me children, or else I die!”And Jacob’s anger was aroused against Rachel, and he said,“ Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”So she said,“ Here is my maid Bilhah; go in to her, and she will bear a child on my knees, that I also may have children by her.”Then she gave him Bilhah her maid as wife, and Jacob went in to her.And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has judged my case; and He has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.And Rachel’s maid Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.Then Rachel said,“ With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and indeed I have prevailed.” So she called his name Naphtali.When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, she took Zilpah her maid and gave her to Jacob as wife.And Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a son.Then Leah said,“ A troop comes!” So she called his name Gad.And Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.Then Leah said,“ I am happy, for the daughters will call me blessed.” So she called his name Asher.Now Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah,“ Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”But she said to her,“ Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?” And Rachel said,“ Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”When Jacob came out of the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said,“ You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” And he lay with her that night.And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.Leah said,“ God has given me my wages, because I have given my maid to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar.Then Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.And Leah said,“ God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name Zebulun.Afterward she bore a daughter, and called her name Dinah.Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.And she conceived and bore a son, and said,“ God has taken away my reproach.”So she called his name Joseph, and said,“ The Lord shall add to me another son.”

And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken.For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him— whom Sarah bore to him— Isaac.Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

And Abraham begot Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel.

Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.But the children struggled together within her; and she said,“ If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.And the Lord said to her:“ Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.

Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.

And so it was, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.

Moses therefore gave you circumcision( not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.
