Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around,that the king said to Nathan the prophet,“ See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”Then Nathan said to the king,“ Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying,“ Go and tell My servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord:“ Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously,since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.“ When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”’”

Now it came to pass, when David was dwelling in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet,“ See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.”Then Nathan said to David,“ Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”But it happened that night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,“ Go and tell My servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord:“ You shall not build Me a house to dwell in.

Now the Lord said to Samuel,“ How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said:“ Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?

Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, And said:“ I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.I have found My servant David; With My holy oil I have anointed him,With whom My hand shall be established; Also My arm shall strengthen him.The enemy shall not outwit him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.I will beat down his foes before his face, And plague those who hate him.“ But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him, And in My name his horn shall be exalted.Also I will set his hand over the sea, And his right hand over the rivers.He shall cry to Me,‘ You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’Also I will make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth.My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him.His seed also I will make to endure forever, And his throne as the days of heaven.“ If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments,If they break My statutes And do not keep My commandments,Then I will punish their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes.Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, Nor allow My faithfulness to fail.My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David:His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me;It shall be established forever like the moon, Even like the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.But the Lord said to my father David,‘ Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My name.’

The Lord has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it:“ I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.

So David said to Michal,“ It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord.

So Samuel said to him,“ The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

And David said to Solomon:“ My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the Lord my God;but the word of the Lord came to me, saying,‘ You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight.

And Samuel said to Jesse,“ Are all the young men here?” Then he said,“ There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse,“ Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said,“ Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

Now for the house of my God I have prepared with all my might: gold for things to be made of gold, silver for things of silver, bronze for things of bronze, iron for things of iron, wood for things of wood, onyx stones, stones to be set, glistening stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble slabs in abundance.Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:

But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which He loved.And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.He also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds;From following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance.So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Then King David rose to his feet and said,“ Hear me, my brethren and my people: I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made preparations to build it.But God said to me,‘ You shall not build a house for My name, because you have been a man of war and have shed blood.’However the Lord God of Israel chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen Judah to be the ruler. And of the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel.And of all my sons( for the Lord has given me many sons) He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.
