Now the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of meeting there. And the land was subdued before them.

And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land to them by allotment.

For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day.

And the Lord drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”

David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.Then David said,“ No one may carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever.”And David gathered all Israel together at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it.Then David assembled the children of Aaron and the Levites:of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and one hundred and twenty of his brethren;of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and two hundred and twenty of his brethren;of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and one hundred and thirty of his brethren;of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and two hundred of his brethren;of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and eighty of his brethren;of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and one hundred and twelve of his brethren.And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.He said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it.For because you did not do it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order.”So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders, by its poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord.Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of their brethren, the sons of Merari, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand.And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark.Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.And David became angry because of the LORD’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day.David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said,“ How can the ark of the Lord come to me?”So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.Now it was told King David, saying,“ The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep.Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.So they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house.Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said,“ How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”So David said to Michal,“ It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord.And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

and Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon,

Then they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tabernacle of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the tabernacle. The priests and the Levites brought them up.

He also drove out the nations before them, Allotted them an inheritance by survey, And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.

For the tabernacle of the Lord and the altar of the burnt offering, which Moses had made in the wilderness, were at that time at the high place in Gibeon.

So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying,“ Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.And the Lord said to Joshua,“ This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

So the people went in And possessed the land; You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, The Canaanites, And gave them into their hands, With their kings And the people of the land, That they might do with them as they wished.

“ Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, across from Jericho; view the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel as a possession;

For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan.Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe.And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.”So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water( for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest),that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan.

So they set up for themselves Micah’s carved image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
