於是、上帝弗恤、聽其奉事天上列宿、先知書有云、以色列族乎、爾於曠野四十年、非以犧牲祭物獻我歟、

於是天主離之、聽其奉事天上群星、如先知書所載云、以色列族乎、爾於曠野歷四十年、獻犧牲祭物、豈獻於我乎、

天主乃棄置之、任彼奉事天上之日月星辰、此正如先知書所記曰：嗚呼義塞之家室、率彼曠野四十春。何曾貢我以祭品、何曾獻我以犧牲。

因此，神任憑他們順著心中的情慾去做汙穢的事，以致彼此玷汙自己的身體。他們用虛假取代神的真理，去崇拜、事奉被造之物，而不事奉造物之主——主是當受頌讚的，直到永遠！阿們。為此，神任憑他們陷入可恥的情慾，連他們的女人也把天性的功用變為違反天性的；同樣，男人也放棄了女人天性的功用，彼此之間慾火中燒，男人與男人做出羞恥的事，就在自己身上受到他們的妄為所應得的報應。既然人不願意真正認識神，神就任憑他們存敗壞的理性，去做那些不該做的事。

然而我的子民不聽我的聲音，以色列不願意順從我。我就任憑他們心裡頑固，隨自己的計謀而行。

然而他們悖逆，使他的聖靈憂傷；他就轉成他們的仇敵，親自與他們爭戰。

因此，我要選擇折磨他們的事，使他們所恐懼的臨到他們。因為我呼喚，沒有人回應；我說話，他們不聽從；他們做我眼中看為惡的事，選擇我所不喜悅的事。」

經上說：「今天，你們如果聽見他的聲音，就不可硬著你們的心，如同在那悖逆的時候。」到底是誰聽見卻悖逆了呢？難道不是被摩西從埃及帶領出來的那一切人嗎？神又向誰發怒了四十年之久呢？難道不是那些犯了罪、屍首倒在曠野的人嗎？

四十年之久，我厭惡了那世代，我說：『他們是心裡迷失的子民，他們不認識我的道路。』

在那裡，你們的祖先考驗我、試探我，並且看了我的作為四十年之久。

這個人帶領以色列子民出來，在埃及地、在紅海，並且在曠野的四十年間，行了奇事和神蹟。

你沒有帶給我燔祭用的羊，也沒有用你的祭物來榮耀我！不過我卻沒有讓你因供物有重負，也沒有讓你因乳香而厭倦。

並且使用一切不義的詭計，因為他們不接受那能使他們得救的真理之愛。為此，神就把一種迷惑人的力量送進他們裡面，使他們相信虛假之事，好使所有不相信真理而喜悅不義的人，都被定罪。
