Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

“可是我们的祖先不听从他，甚至弃绝他，心里对埃及恋恋不舍。

我们的祖先不肯顺从，反而弃绝了他，甚至在心里转回埃及去，

我們的祖宗不肯聽從，反棄絕他，心裏歸向埃及，

我們的祖宗不肯聽從，反棄絕他，他們的心轉向埃及，

「可是我們的祖先不聽從他，甚至棄絕他，心裡對埃及戀戀不捨。

我們的祖先不肯聽從他，反而把他推開，他們的心已經轉向了埃及，

我們的祖宗不肯聽從他，倒給推開了，心裏轉向着埃及，

我們的祖先不肯順從，反而棄絕了他，甚至在心裡轉回埃及去，

我列祖弗順而拒之、意欲返埃及、

列祖不順而拒之、欲反埃及、

我列祖弗順從、反拒之、心中欲返伊及、

詎知我列祖非惟不願聽從、反加以背棄、而其心且戀念埃及不置。

“ But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

“ But our people refused to obey Moses. They would not accept him. In their hearts, they wished they were back in Egypt.

Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,

“ But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him. Instead, they pushed him aside, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,

to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him, but pushed him away, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust[ him] from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

So why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder! Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”So they said to one another,“ Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt!”

We remember the fish which we used to eat for free in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;

The sons of Israel said to them,“ If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread until we were full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this entire assembly with hunger!”

But the people were thirsty for water there; and they grumbled against Moses and said,“ Why is it that you have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”

Gilead’s wife bore him sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him,“ You shall not have an inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”

Then they said to Moses,“ Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt?Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying,‘ Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness!”

“ But they, our fathers, acted arrogantly; They became stubborn and would not listen to Your commandments.They refused to listen, And did not remember Your wondrous deeds which You performed among them; So they became stubborn and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger and abounding in mercy; And You did not abandon them.

So Solomon dismissed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which He had spoken regarding the house of Eli in Shiloh.

They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, So that it went badly for Moses on their account.Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.

So the people spoke against God and Moses:“ Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we are disgusted with this miserable food.”

“ You men who are stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him;

on that day I swore to them, to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all the lands.And I said to them,‘ Throw away, each of you, the detestable things of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.’But they rebelled against Me and were not willing to listen to Me; they did not throw away, each of them, the detestable things of their eyes, nor did they abandon the idols of Egypt.“ Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to use up My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.But I acted for the sake of My name, that it would not be defiled in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.So I took them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.I gave them My statutes and informed them of My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them.Also I gave them My Sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, so that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not walk in My statutes and they rejected My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them; and they greatly profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them in the wilderness, to annihilate them.But I acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be defiled before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them out.

When they became envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,

But the one who was injuring his neighbor pushed him away, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge over us?
