He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.

Moses was with the Israelites in the desert. He was with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai. Moses was with our people of long ago. He received living words to pass on to us.

Moses was with our ancestors, the assembly of God’s people in the wilderness, when the angel spoke to him at Mount Sinai. And there Moses received life giving words to pass on to us.

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the actual words of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Great in every respect. First, that they were entrusted with the actual words of God.

you who received the Law as ordained by angels, and yet did not keep it.”

Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

he said to them,“ Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you will command your sons to follow carefully, all the words of this Law.For it is not a trivial matter for you; indeed it is your life. And by this word you will prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”

And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying,“ This is what you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:‘ You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the Lord had commanded him.Then all the people answered together and said,“ All that the Lord has spoken we will do!” And Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Behold, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and may also trust in you forever.” Then Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.The Lord also said to Moses,“ Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their garments;and have them ready for the third day, for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.But you shall set boundaries for the people all around, saying,‘ Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall certainly be put to death.No hand shall touch him, but he shall certainly be stoned or shot through; whether animal or person, the violator shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.”So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments.He also said to the people,“ Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud over the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.

Moses issued to us the Law, A possession for the assembly of Jacob.

“ Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, so that you may do them in the land where you are going over to take possession of it,so that you, your son, and your grandson will fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.Now Israel, you shall listen and be careful to do them, so that it may go well for you and that you may increase greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

Go near and listen to everything that the Lord our God says; then speak to us everything that the Lord our God speaks to you, and we will listen and do it.’“ Now the Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me,‘ I have heard the sound of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it would go well with them and with their sons forever!Go, say to them,“ Return to your tents.”But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments which you shall teach them, so that they may follow them in the land which I am giving them to possess.’

In all their distress He was distressed, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

“ After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn bush.

“ Now these are the ordinances which you are to set before them:“ If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall leave as a free man without a payment to you.If he comes alone, he shall leave alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall leave with him.If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall leave alone.But if the slave plainly says,‘ I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not leave as a free man,’then his master shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.“ Now if a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He does not have authority to sell her to a foreign people, because of his unfairness to her.And if he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.If he takes to himself another woman, he may not reduce her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.But if he will not do these three things for her, then she shall go free for nothing, without payment of money.

For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they were to teach them to their children,So that the generation to come would know, the children yet to be born, That they would arise and tell them to their children,So that they would put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But comply with His commandments,And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God.The sons of Ephraim were archers equipped with bows, Yet they turned back on the day of battle.

Why the Law then? It was added on account of the violations, having been ordered through angels at the hand of a mediator, until the Seed would come to whom the promise had been made.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.

Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments.So You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, And gave them commandments, statutes, and law, Through Your servant Moses.

“ This Moses whom they disowned, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, so that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

But on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying,“ You are the ones who have caused the death of the Lord’s people!”It came about, however, when the congregation had assembled against Moses and Aaron, that they turned toward the tent of meeting, and behold, the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord appeared.

But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows:“ Do not say in your heart,‘ Who will go up into heaven?’( that is, to bring Christ down),or‘ Who will descend into the abyss?’( that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”But what does it say?“ The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”— that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Then they said to Moses,“ Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but do not have God speak to us, or we will die!”However, Moses said to the people,“ Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you will not sin.”

They assembled together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them,“ You have gone far enough! For all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is in their midst; so why do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”When Moses heard this, he fell on his face;and he spoke to Korah and all his group, saying,“ Tomorrow morning the Lord will make known who is His, and who is holy, and will bring that one near to Himself; indeed, the one whom He will choose, He will bring near to Himself.Do this: take censers for yourselves, Korah and your whole group,and put fire in them, and place incense upon them in the presence of the Lord tomorrow; and the man whom the Lord chooses shall be the one who is holy. You have gone far enough, you sons of Levi!”Then Moses said to Korah,“ Hear now, you sons of Levi:Is it too small an honor for you that the God of Israel has singled you out from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to perform the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;and that He has brought you near, Korah, and all your brothers, sons of Levi, with you? But are you seeking the priesthood as well?Therefore you and your whole group are the ones gathered together against the Lord; but as for Aaron, who is he, that you grumble against him?”Then Moses sent a summons to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said,“ We will not come up.Is it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to have us die in the wilderness, but you would also appoint yourself as master over us?Indeed, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor have you given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you gouge out the eyes of these men? We will not come up!”Then Moses became very angry and said to the Lord,“ Pay no attention to their offering! I have not taken a single donkey from them, nor have I done harm to any of them.”Moses said to Korah,“ You and all your group be present before the Lord tomorrow, you and they along with Aaron.And each of you take his censer and put incense on it, and each of you bring his censer before the Lord, 250 censers; also you and Aaron shall each bring his censer.”So they took, each one his own censer, and put fire on it, and placed incense on it; and they stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.So Korah assembled all the congregation against them at the entrance of the tent of meeting. And the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,“ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, so that I may consume them instantly.”But they fell on their faces and said,“ God, the God of the spirits of humanity, when one person sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Speak to the congregation, saying,‘ Get away from the areas around the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’ ”Then Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, with the elders of Israel following him,and he spoke to the congregation, saying,“ Get away now from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you will be swept away in all their sin!”So they moved away from the areas around the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrances of their tents, along with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.Then Moses said,“ By this you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these deeds; for it is not my doing.If these men die the death of all mankind, or if they suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me.But if the Lord brings about an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them with everything that is theirs, and they descend alive into Sheol, then you will know that these men have been disrespectful to the Lord.”And as he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open;and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, and all the people who belonged to Korah with all their possessions.So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.Then all Israel who were around them fled at their outcry, for they said,“ The earth might swallow us!”Fire also came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.

who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons and daughters, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law, the temple service, and the promises;

For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every violation and act of disobedience received a just punishment,

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
