At daybreak all the elders of the people assembled, including the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. Jesus was led before this high council,

The next day the commander ordered the leading priests into session with the Jewish high council. He wanted to find out what the trouble was all about, so he released Paul to have him stand before them.Gazing intently at the high council, Paul began:“ Brothers, I have always lived before God with a clear conscience!”

This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.

They brought in the two disciples and demanded,“ By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”
