When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

那時，耶穌說：「父啊，天地的主，我感謝你！因為你把這些事向聰明智慧的人隱藏起來，而向嬰孩啟示出來。

猶太人驚訝地說：「這個人沒有學過，怎麼那樣熟悉經典呢？」

都詫異驚奇說：「看哪，這些說話的不都是加利利人嗎？我們每個人怎麼聽見他們說我們生來所用的鄉談呢？我們帕提亞人、瑪代人、以攔人，和住在美索不達米亞、猶太、加帕多家、本都、亞細亞、弗呂家、旁非利亞、埃及的人，並靠近古利奈的利比亞一帶地方的人，僑居的羅馬人，包括猶太人和皈依猶太教的人，克里特人和阿拉伯人，都聽見他們用我們的鄉談講論神的大作為。」眾人就都驚奇困惑，彼此說：「這是甚麼意思呢？」

過了不久，旁邊站着的人進前來，對彼得說：「你的確是他們一夥的，你的口音把你顯露出來了。」

彼得卻站在門外。大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來，對看門的使女說了一聲，就領彼得進去。那看門的使女對彼得說：「你不也是這人的門徒嗎？」他說：「我不是。」

抓耶穌的人把他帶到大祭司該亞法那裏去，文士和長老已經在那裏聚集。彼得遠遠地跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子，進到裏面，就和警衛同坐，要看結局怎樣。

耶穌沿着加利利海邊行走，看見兩兄弟，就是那叫彼得的西門和他弟弟安得烈，正往海裏撒網；他們本是打魚的。耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我，我要叫你們得人如得魚一樣。」他們立刻捨了網，跟從他。耶穌從那裏往前走，看見另外兩兄弟，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他弟弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上補網，耶穌就呼召他們。他們立刻捨了船，辭別父親，跟從了耶穌。

他出去，到了門口，又有一個使女看見他，就對那裏的人說：「這個人是同拿撒勒人耶穌一起的。」

耶穌見母親和他所愛的那門徒站在旁邊，就對母親說：「母親，看，你的兒子！」

但這些不明白律法的眾人是被詛咒的！」

耶穌打發彼得和約翰，說：「你們去為我們預備逾越節的宴席，好讓我們吃。」

耶穌對那些來抓他的祭司長、守殿官和長老說：「你們帶着刀棒出來，如同對付強盜嗎？我天天同你們在聖殿裏，你們不下手抓我。現在卻是你們的時候，黑暗掌權了。」他們拿住耶穌，把他帶走，進入大祭司的住宅。彼得遠遠地跟着。

有一個使女看見彼得面向火光坐着，就定睛看他，說：「這個人素來也是同那人一起的。」彼得卻不承認，說：「你這個女人，我不認得他！」過了一會兒，又有一個人看見他，說：「你也是他們一夥的。」彼得說：「你這個人，我不是！」約過了一小時，又有一個人堅持說：「他實在是同那人一起的，因為他也是加利利人。」彼得說：「你這個人，我不知道你在說甚麼！」正說話之間，雞就叫了。
