他去與祭司長和守殿官商量怎樣把耶穌交給他們。

又煽動民眾、長老、經學家，這些人就來捉拿他，把他帶到公議會，

保羅看出其中一部分是撒都該人，另一部分是法利賽人，就在公議會中大聲說：“我是法利賽人，也是法利賽人的子孫，我現在受審，是為了盼望死人復活！”他說了這話，法利賽人和撒都該人就起了爭論，會眾也分裂了，成為兩派。原來撒都該人說沒有復活，沒有天使，也沒有鬼靈，法利賽人卻認定這些都有。於是眾人大嚷大鬧，有幾個法利賽派的經學家站起來辯論說：“我們看不出這個人作過甚麼壞事；說不定有靈或天使對他說過話。”

撒都該人向來認為沒有復活的事。那一天，他們前來問耶穌：“老師，摩西說：‘如果一個人死了，沒有兒女，他的弟弟應該娶他的妻子，為哥哥立後。’

約翰看見許多法利賽人和撒都該人來到他施洗的地方，就對他們說：“毒蛇所生的啊，誰指示你們逃避那將要來的忿怒呢？

於是守衛長和差役去帶使徒來，不過沒有用暴力，因為怕眾民用石頭打他們。

聖殿的守衛長和祭司長聽了這些話，覺得很困惑，不知道這件事將來會怎樣。

那時，猶大帶著一隊兵，還有祭司長和法利賽人的差役，拿著燈籠、火把、武器，來到園子裡。

祭司長和長老慫恿群眾，叫他們去要求釋放巴拉巴，除掉耶穌。

你們要這樣行：你們中間每逢安息日來值班的祭司和利未人，三分之一要把守各門；三分之一要在王宮，三分之一要在基址門；全體人民都要在耶和華殿的院子裡。除了祭司和供職的利未人以外，任何人不得進入耶和華的殿，只有他們可以進去，因為他們是分別為聖的；全體人民都要遵守耶和華的吩咐。利未人要在周圍環繞君王，各人手裡拿著武器；擅自進殿的，都必被處死；王出入的時候，你們都要隨著他。”利未人和猶大眾人都照著耶何耶大祭司吩咐的一切去行；他們各人帶著在安息日值班或在安息日下班的人來，因為耶何耶大祭司不准他們下班。於是耶何耶大祭司把神的殿裡，原本屬於大衛王的矛槍、大盾和小盾，交給了眾百夫長；

神的道傳開了；在耶路撒冷，門徒人數大大增加，有很多祭司也信從了真道。

到了早上，所有的祭司長和民間的長老商議怎樣對付耶穌，好殺掉他。他們把他綁起來，押去交給總督彼拉多。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老聚集在大祭司該亞法的官邸，商議怎樣用詭計逮捕耶穌，把他殺害。

祭司長、經學家和長老也同樣譏笑他，說：

這時他們才領會耶穌說的不是要提防餅酵，而是要提防法利賽人和撒都該人的教訓。

他們派了自己的門徒和希律黨的人一同去問耶穌：“老師，我們知道你為人誠實，照著真理把神的道教導人，不顧忌任何人，因為你不徇情面。

還有大祭司亞那和該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，以及大祭司的家人，所有的人都在那裡。

你們要記住我對你們說過的話：‘僕人不能大過主人。’他們若迫害我，也必定迫害你們；他們若遵守我的話，也必定遵守你們的話。
