These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.

For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said,“ We want to hear more about this later.”

But God raised him from the dead!And over a period of many days he appeared to those who had gone with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to the people of Israel.

but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear,not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all— the living and the dead.

Paul realized that some members of the high council were Sadducees and some were Pharisees, so he shouted,“ Brothers, I am a Pharisee, as were my ancestors! And I am on trial because my hope is in the resurrection of the dead!”

He replied,“ What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

But tell me this— since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead?For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either.And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.And we apostles would all be lying about God— for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead.And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost!And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.

Instead, it was something about their religion and a dead man named Jesus, who Paul insists is alive.

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Jesus replied,“ Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.“ But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead— haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.”

Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son,and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.

For the word of God will never fail.”
