僅為宗教上之爭執、實非予所逆料也。不過葆樂肯定有一耶穌、死而復生而已。此等事予實不知如何訊究、故予詢彼願往耶路撒冷聽審否、

葆樂既至、凡自耶路撒冷而來之猶太人環立、控訴多端、且屬重大事項、而悉不能證實。葆樂答曰：『無論於猶太律法、於聖殿、於凱撒、予悉未嘗有所干犯。』

依吾等所見、此人實為蝥賊、煽動普天下猶太人作亂、又係納匝勒異端之一首領、意圖褻瀆聖殿。故吾儕拘之。

予苟行不義、而干死罪、死亦不恤；今彼等所控予者、悉非事實、則無人能以予之生命作為饋禮。予茲聲明上訴於凱撒！』

方伯向葆樂頷首、命置答。葆樂即曰：『知汝在此國中、聽訟有年、故予安心自為辯護。汝一查究、便知我來耶路撒冷禮主、迄今不過十有二日；彼等未嘗見予在殿中會中或於城中與人爭辯、或聚集群眾。今所控予諸端、又不能向汝提證。但有一事、予可自白：即彼等所稱為異端之道、予確以斯道昭事吾祖之天主、且篤信律法及先知書中所載之一切也。我所望於天主者、無論善人惡人悉將復活、即彼等亦未嘗不懷此盼望也。予之所以發奮自勉、務求心地光明、對主對人、無所愧怍者、正為此耳。我未來此京有年矣、今番來此、原為齎款賑濟國人且獻禮以還願。彼等見我正值我獻禮殿中、且已行潔禮、既未聚眾、亦未滋擾。其時惟有來自亞細亞之猶太人在殿、倘若輩有不滿於我、則當來汝前呈訴，即今出庭諸人、如曾見予在公會時有非法不義之舉、亦儘可明告。有之、其惟予當眾揚言：「今之被審、乃為死人復活之端」歟！』
