as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.

既曙、長老司祭長經生咸集、引耶穌至公會、曰：

時掃羅氣燄逼人、必欲誅滅主之門徒。乃謁大司祭、求行文大馬士革各會堂、遇有此道中人、不論男女、盡縛解耶路撒冷。

昧爽、宗徒入殿、如命施訓。大司祭及其黨徒既集、召會眾並義塞長老、遣吏往獄中提宗徒。

曩於諸長老行覆手禮時、汝藉豫言而承受之恩寵、尚在汝之心中；

兄弟乎、亞伯漢之裔乎、爾中敬畏天主者乎、當知救世之道、本傳吾輩、

翌日、有司、長老、經生會於耶路撒冷、

眾曰：『吾儕未接猶太書述及爾事、亦無同胞來此道爾不法者；

倘能救我兄弟骨肉之親、則吾本人雖見絕於基督、亦所願也！我兄弟骨肉者、義塞人也；其名分則屬天主之子女；凡光榮、盟約、律法、禮儀、以及重重恩諾、無一而非其固有之家業；

近復受命於司祭長、有權縛解呼籲爾名者。』

此即予在耶路撒冷時之所行也。嘗受權於司祭長、逮捕聖徒多人下獄其定讞處死、予亦與焉；

其時予承司祭長委權受命、往大馬士革。

『父老兄弟！聽予向爾分辨！』
