They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs.

They have been told that you teach Jews to turn away from the Law of Moses. You teach this to the Jews who live among the Gentiles. They think that you teach those Jews not to circumcise their children. They think that you teach them to give up our Jewish ways.

Those who want to make a good showing in external matters are trying to force you to be circumcised. They do so only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.For those who are circumcised do not obey the law themselves, but they want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your flesh.But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that matters is a new creation!

shouting,“ Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this sanctuary! Furthermore he has brought Greeks into the inner courts of the temple and made this holy place ritually unclean!”

For since I am free from all I can make myself a slave to all, in order to gain even more people.To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law) to gain those under the law.To those free from the law I became like one free from the law( though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.

After three days Paul called the local Jewish leaders together. When they had assembled, he said to them,“ Brothers, although I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, from Jerusalem I was handed over as a prisoner to the Romans.

For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery.Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all!And I testify again to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.You who are trying to be declared righteous by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace!For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness.For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight– the only thing that matters is faith working through love.

Now receive the one who is weak in the faith, and do not have disputes over differing opinions.One person believes in eating everything, but the weak person eats only vegetables.The one who eats everything must not despise the one who does not, and the one who abstains must not judge the one who eats everything, for God has accepted him.Who are you to pass judgment on another’s servant? Before his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.One person regards one day holier than other days, and another regards them all alike. Each must be fully convinced in his own mind.The one who observes the day does it for the Lord. The one who eats, eats for the Lord because he gives thanks to God, and the one who abstains from eating abstains for the Lord, and he gives thanks to God.

“ Therefore I conclude that we should not cause extra difficulty for those among the Gentiles who are turning to God,but that we should write them a letter telling them to abstain from things defiled by idols and from sexual immorality and from what has been strangled and from blood.For Moses has had those who proclaim him in every town from ancient times, because he is read aloud in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

They brought forward false witnesses who said,“ This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.For we have heard him saying that Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”

Was anyone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision. Was anyone called who is uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised.Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts.

Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was Greek.
