after John had proclaimed, before His coming, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And while John was completing his course, he kept saying,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:“ Behold, I am sending My messenger before You, Who will prepare Your way;The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

Now in those days John the Baptist* came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said,“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”

But they kept on insisting, saying,“ He is stirring up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee, as far as this place!”

Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,and saying,“ The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

For the king knows about these matters, and I also speak to him with confidence, since I am persuaded that none of these things escape his notice; for this has not been done in a corner.

So then, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that He was making and baptizing more disciples than John( although Jesus Himself was not baptizing; rather, His disciples were),He left Judea and went away again to Galilee.

Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee;and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:“ The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a Light dawned.”From that time Jesus began to preach and say,“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for regarding this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere.”
