The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.Consequently, many of them believed, including a number of the prominent Greek women as well as men.

My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

You did not despise or reject me though my physical condition was a trial for you. On the contrary, you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus himself.

A wise correction to a receptive ear is like a gold ring or an ornament of gold.

But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.For who out of all humanity has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the fire, as we have, and lived?Go near and listen to everything the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we will listen and obey.’“ The LORD heard your words when you spoke to me. Everything they have said is right.If only they had such a heart to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that they and their children would prosper forever.

This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
