The high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.“ I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered him.“ I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather, and I haven’t spoken anything in secret.Why do you question me? Question those who heard what I told them. Look, they know what I said.”

At that time Jesus healed many people of diseases, afflictions, and evil spirits, and he granted sight to many blind people.He replied to them,“ Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,and blessed is the one who isn’t offended by me.”

For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.He did not commit sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;when he was insulted, he did not insult in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.

For which of these works are you stoning me?”“ We aren’t stoning you for a good work,” the Jews answered,“ but for blasphemy, because you— being a man— make yourself God.”Jesus answered them,“ Isn’t it written in your law, I said, you are gods?If he called those to whom the word of God came‘ gods’— and the Scripture cannot be broken—do you say,‘ You are blaspheming’ to the one the Father set apart and sent into the world, because I said: I am the Son of God?If I am not doing my Father’s works, don’t believe me.But if I am doing them and you don’t believe me, believe the works. This way you will know and understand that the Father is in me and I in the Father.”

After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived and kept herself in seclusion for five months. She said,
