But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what Paul was saying, insulting him.

When an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat and stone them,they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding countryside.

One who is righteous has many adversities, but the LORD rescues him from them all.

Are they servants of Christ? I’m talking like a madman— I’m a better one: with far more labors, many more imprisonments, far worse beatings, many times near death.Five times I received the forty lashes minus one from the Jews.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked. To this very day, I have had help from God, and I stand and testify to both small and great, saying nothing other than what the prophets and Moses said would take place—

He will rescue you from six calamities; no harm will touch you in seven.In famine he will redeem you from death, and in battle, from the power of the sword.

In Iconium they entered the Jewish synagogue, as usual, and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

We don’t want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of our affliction that took place in Asia. We were completely overwhelmed— beyond our strength— so that we even despaired of life itself.Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and he will deliver us. We have put our hope in him that he will deliver us again

After many days had passed, the Jews conspired to kill him,but Saul learned of their plot. So they were watching the gates day and night intending to kill him,but his disciples took him by night and lowered him in a large basket through an opening in the wall.

I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

Sometimes you were publicly exposed to taunts and afflictions, and at other times you were companions of those who were treated that way.For you sympathized with the prisoners and accepted with joy the confiscation of your possessions, because you know that you yourselves have a better and enduring possession.

When the dispute became violent, the commander feared that Paul might be torn apart by them and ordered the troops to go down, take him away from them, and bring him into the barracks.

serving the Lord with all humility, with tears, and during the trials that came to me through the plots of the Jews.

Some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and when they won over the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead.After the disciples gathered around him, he got up and went into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.After they had preached the gospel in that town and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and the rivers will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, and the flame will not burn you.

I will say concerning the LORD, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust:He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, from the destructive plague.He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield.You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day,the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon.

They continued their journey from Perga and reached Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.

asking for a favor against Paul, that Festus summon him to Jerusalem. They were, in fact, preparing an ambush along the road to kill him.Festus, however, answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to go there shortly.

They will fight against you but never prevail over you, since I am with you to rescue you.” This is the LORD’s declaration.

Taking along soldiers and centurions, he immediately ran down to them. Seeing the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.Then the commander approached, took him into custody, and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He asked who he was and what he had done.

But the Jews incited the prominent God-fearing women and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their district.But Paul and Barnabas shook the dust off their feet against them and went to Iconium.

When it was morning, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.There were more than forty who had formed this plot.These men went to the chief priests and elders and said,“ We have bound ourselves under a solemn curse that we won’t eat anything until we have killed Paul.So now you, along with the Sanhedrin, make a request to the commander that he bring him down to you as if you were going to investigate his case more thoroughly. But, before he gets near, we are ready to kill him.”But the son of Paul’s sister, hearing about their ambush, came and entered the barracks and reported it to Paul.Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the commander, because he has something to report to him.”So he took him, brought him to the commander, and said,“ The prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, because he has something to tell you.”The commander took him by the hand, led him aside, and inquired privately,“ What is it you have to report to me?”“ The Jews,” he said,“ have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the Sanhedrin tomorrow, as though they are going to hold a somewhat more careful inquiry about him.Don’t let them persuade you, because there are more than forty of them lying in ambush— men who have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, waiting for your consent.”So the commander dismissed the young man and instructed him,“ Don’t tell anyone that you have informed me about this.”He summoned two of his centurions and said,“ Get two hundred soldiers ready with seventy cavalry and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.Also provide mounts to ride so that Paul may be brought safely to Felix the governor.”

For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: We have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless;

The LORD helps and delivers them; he will deliver them from the wicked and will save them because they take refuge in him.

except that in every town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions are waiting for me.But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.
