你們自己本來就知道應當怎樣效法我們，因為我們在你們中間並沒有游手好閒，

難道我們沒有權利吃喝嗎？難道我們沒有權利，像其餘的使徒、主的弟兄和磯法一樣，帶著信主的妻子往來嗎？難道只有我和巴拿巴沒有權利不作工嗎？有誰當兵要自備糧餉呢？有誰栽種葡萄園，不吃園裡的果子呢？有誰牧養羊群，不喝羊的奶呢？我說這話，不是照著人的意見，律法不也是這樣說嗎？就在摩西的律法上記著說：“牛踹穀的時候，不可籠住牠的嘴。”難道神關心的只是牛嗎？這不全是為我們說的嗎？當然是為我們說的，因為耕種的應當存著希望去耕種，收割的也應當存著希望去分享收穫。我們既然在你們中間撒了屬靈的種子，如果要從你們那裡收穫一些物質的供應，這算是過分嗎？如果別人在你們身上享有這種權利，我們不是更可以享有嗎？然而我們沒有用過這種權利，反而凡事容忍，免得我們攔阻了基督的福音。難道你們不知道，在聖殿供職的，就吃殿中的供物；侍候祭壇的，就分領壇上的祭物嗎？主也曾這樣吩咐，叫傳福音的人靠福音為生。

在聖道上受教的，應該和施教的人分享自己的一切美物。

也沒有向你們或別人求取人的榮譽。我們身為基督使徒的，雖然有權利受人尊敬，但我們在你們中間卻是謙和的，就像母親乳養自己的孩子。

我作了你們的榜樣，是要你們也照著我所作的去行。

你們就是為此蒙召，因基督也為你們受過苦，給你們留下榜樣，叫你們跟隨他的腳蹤行。

路上不要帶行囊，也不要帶兩件衣裳，不要帶鞋或手杖，因為作工的理當得到供應。
