Tell them,“ We are your servants. Now make a covenant with us.”’This our bread we took hot for our supplies out of our houses on the day we went out to go to you; but now, behold, it is dry, and has become moldy.These wine skins, which we filled, were new; and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey.”The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them.At the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they lived among them.The children of Israel traveled and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim.The children of Israel didn’t strike them, because the princes of the congregation had sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. All the congregation murmured against the princes.But all the princes said to all the congregation,“ We have sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. Now therefore we may not touch them.We will do this to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.”The princes said to them,“ Let them live.” So they became wood cutters and drawers of water for all the congregation, as the princes had spoken to them.

They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

He said,“ Come with me, and see my zeal for Yahweh.” So they made him ride in his chariot.

You shall consume all the peoples whom Yahweh your God shall deliver to you. Your eye shall not pity them. You shall not serve their gods; for that would be a snare to you.

Saul said,“ God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”

When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said,“ Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”But he turned and rebuked them,“ You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.

He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, and of the fat calves, and the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Yahweh, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin.

For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
