The men of Israel answered the men of Judah:“ We have 10 shares in the king, so we have a greater claim to David than you. Why then do you despise us? Weren’t we the first to speak of restoring our king?” But the words of the men of Judah were harsher than those of the men of Israel.

以色列人曰、我儕於王、分有其十、與大衛之情誼、較爾尤深、爾導我王歸、曷藐視我、不先與我議乎、然猶大人之言、較以色列人尤厲、

以色列族曰、立王十二支派、我有其十、故我得王較爾應多、爾欲導王歸、曷藐視我、不先與我議乎。然猶大人之言、較以色列族尤厲。

以色列人語猶大人曰、我於王有十分之關繫、我於大衛較爾情誼尤深、爾何藐視我、不使我先請我王歸耶、爾何藐視我不使我先請我王歸耶或作爾導王歸何藐視我不先與我言也又作爾何藐視我請我王歸豈非我先言之耶然猶大人之言、較以色列人之言尤厲、

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah,“ We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah. They said,“ We have ten of the 12 tribes in the kingdom. So we have a stronger claim on David than you have. Why then are you acting as if you hate us? Weren’t we the first ones to talk about bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah argued their side even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah,“ We have ten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

“ But there are ten tribes in Israel,” the others replied.“ So we have ten times as much right to the king as you do. What right do you have to treat us with such contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing him back to be our king again?” The argument continued back and forth, and the men of Judah spoke even more harshly than the men of Israel.

Was it not our advice first to bring back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.

Why then do you despise us— were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

The men of Israel replied to the men of Judah,“ We have ten shares in the king, and we have a greater claim on David than you do! Why do you want to curse us? Weren’t we the first to suggest bringing back our king?” But the comments of the men of Judah were more severe than those of the men of Israel.

The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said,“ We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,“ Here we are, your own flesh and blood.

idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,

Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.

for we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a mature man who is also able to control his whole body.Now when we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide the whole animal.And consider ships: Though very large and driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things. Consider how large a forest a small fire ignites.And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell.Every sea creature, reptile, bird, or animal is tamed and has been tamed by man,but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.We praise our Lord and Father with it, and we curse men who are made in God’s likeness with it.Praising and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, these things should not be this way.

An offended brother is harder to reach than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the bars of a fortress.

Arrogance leads to nothing but strife, but wisdom is gained by those who take advice.

So he won over all the men of Judah, and they sent word to the king:“ Come back, you and all your servants.”

The men of Ephraim were called together and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah,“ Why have you crossed over to fight against the Ammonites but didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house down with you in it!”Then Jephthah said to them,“ My people and I had a serious conflict with the Ammonites. So I called for you, but you didn’t deliver me from their power.When I saw that you weren’t going to deliver me, I took my life in my own hands and crossed over to the Ammonites, and the Lord handed them over to me. Why then have you come today to fight against me?”Then Jephthah gathered all of the men of Gilead. They fought and defeated Ephraim, because Ephraim had said,“ You Gileadites are Ephraimite fugitives in the territories of Ephraim and Manasseh.”The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim. Whenever a fugitive from Ephraim said,“ Let me cross over,” the Gileadites asked him,“ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he answered,“ No,”they told him,“ Please say Shibboleth.” If he said,“ Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce it correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time 42,000 from Ephraim died.

But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.

When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people answered him: What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Israel, return to your tents; David, now look after your own house! So Israel went to their tents,

The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us, not calling us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they argued with him violently.

What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you?You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask.You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.Adulteresses! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy.Or do you think it’s without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously?

Then Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he had on, tore it into 12 pieces,and said to Jeroboam,“ Take 10 pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord God of Israel says:‘ I am about to tear the kingdom out of Solomon’s hand. I will give you 10 tribes,

We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem. They treated Abimelech deceitfully,

Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.

All the people among all the tribes of Israel were arguing:“ The king delivered us from the grasp of our enemies, and he rescued us from the grasp of the Philistines, but now he has fled from the land because of Absalom.

To start a conflict is to release a flood; stop the dispute before it breaks out.

A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.

Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram’s horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Each man to his tent, Israel!

But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth.Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil.

So David said to Abishai,“ Sheba son of Bichri will do more harm to us than Absalom. Take your lord’s soldiers and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us.”

for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.
