王對迦特人伊太說：「你怎麼也與我們一起離開呢？你回去，留在新王那裡吧！因為你是個外族人，而且是遠離家鄉的流亡者。你昨天才來，今天我就讓你與我們一同四處漂泊嗎？畢竟我要到處遷移了。你回去吧，帶著你的兄弟們回去吧。願耶和華的慈愛和信實與你同在！」伊太回答王說：「我指著耶和華的永生和我主我王的生命起誓：無論我主我王在什麼地方，無論是生是死，僕人都必在那裡。」於是大衛對伊太說：「走，你也過去吧！」迦特人伊太就帶著他的所有部下和隨同家屬，都過去了。

大衛分派軍兵，三分之一在約押手下，三分之一在洗魯雅的兒子約押的弟弟亞比篩手下，三分之一在迦特人伊太手下。王對軍兵說：「我也必定與你們一同出戰。」

大衛不願意把耶和華的約櫃遷移到大衛城自己那裡，於是把它轉運到迦特人俄別·以東的家。
