大衛擊敗了非利士人回來，眾人來到的時候，有婦女們從以色列各城裏出來歌唱，有舞蹈的婦女帶着手鼓和樂器歡歡喜喜地出來迎接掃羅王。

耶弗他往米斯巴、到了自己的家，哎呀，他女兒拿着手鼓舞蹈着、出來迎接他來了；這是他的獨生女；此外就無兒無女。

亞倫的姐姐、女神言人米利暗、手裏拿着手鼓，眾婦女也跟着她出去，拿着手鼓在舞蹈。米利暗跟她們唱和着說：『你們要歌頌永恆主，因為他得勝昂首，將馬和騎兵投入海中。』

永恆主的靈大大激動參孫，參孫就下到亞實基倫，擊殺了他們中間三十個人，取了所被剝奪的衣裳，將那三十套衣裳，給了那些將謎語的意思說出來的人；參孫發怒，便上他父親家裏去了。

大衛問站在他旁邊的人說道：『若有人擊殺了這個非利士人，從以色列人身上除掉了羞辱，可以受到甚麼待遇呢？這沒受割禮的非利士人是誰啊？竟敢向永活的上帝罵陣啊？』

『若不是我怕仇敵惹我發怒，我原想着說：「我必將他們割裂成塊，使他們的名號都滅絕於人間」；恐怕敵人判斷錯了，恐怕他們說：「是我們的手高舉起來作的，並不是永恆主行了這一切事啊。」

非利士人的霸主們聚集了來，要給他們的神大袞獻大祭，並且歡樂慶祝；他們說：『我們的神將我們的仇敵參孫交在我們手中了。』眾民看見參孫，就吶喊頌讚他們的神，說：『我們的神將我們的仇敵、那使我們的地荒廢、又刺死我們許多人的、交在我們手中了。』

因此，你看，我伸手攻擊你，減少你需用的糧食，又將你交給恨你之人、非利士的眾城市，去滿足他們的貪慾；非利士人對你罪大惡極的行徑也有愧色。

那時你的壞行為還沒露現出來；如今你竟成了像她的，成了以東女兒們辱罵的對象、以及她四圍的眾人、那四圍輕蔑你的、非利士女兒們——辱罵的對象呢！

第二天非利士人來剝被刺死者的衣物，看見掃羅和他的三個兒子都倒斃在基利波山上，就割下他的頭，剝了他的軍裝，打發人在非利士地四圍、傳消息給他們的偶像和眾民；

就對拿軍器的護兵說：『拔出刀來，將我刺透，免得這些沒受割禮的人來刺透我、作弄我。』拿軍器的護兵因為非常懼怕，不情願刺他；掃羅就拿刀，自己伏上。

你僕人不但擊死了獅子，也擊死了熊；這沒受割禮的非利士人向永活的上帝罵陣，也必像這些野獸之一那樣。』
