惡人賺得虛妄的報償，播種公義的，得真實的賞報。

曾經有人向我報信說『看哪，掃羅死了』，自以為是報好消息的，我尚且抓住他，在洗革拉把他殺了，作為對他報『好消息』的回報，更何況惡人把義人殺死在義人的家裡、在他自己的床上，我難道不會從你們手中追討殺他流血的罪，把你們從地上除滅嗎？」於是大衛吩咐僕人把他們殺了，砍斷他們的手腳，掛在希伯崙的水池旁邊，然後把伊施波設的頭拿去，葬在希伯崙押尼珥的墳墓裡。

王就對他身旁侍立的護衛兵說：「你們過去斬殺耶和華的祭司們，因為他們也與大衛聯手，他們知道大衛逃走，卻不告訴我。」但王的臣僕們不願意伸手殺害耶和華的祭司。於是王對多益說：「你過去擊殺祭司們。」以東人多益就過去擊殺那些祭司。那天他殺了八十五個佩戴細麻布以弗得的人，
