先古之世、其俗澆漓、為上帝所責、災以洪水、惟傳道義之挪亞、暨其眷聚八人得救、

亦未惜先古之世、以洪水罰彼不虔敬之惡世、惟救傳義道之挪亞等八人、

古時人欲橫流、天主亦不惜使洪水氾濫、僅有宣揚道義之諾厄及同伴七人得濟。

if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others.

And God did not spare the ancient world— except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

後來，那個世界被水淹沒而毀滅了。

挪亞因為有信心，在上帝指示他未來要發生的事之後，就懷著敬畏的心建造方舟，來救全家的人。他藉著信心定了那個世代的罪，並承受了因信而來的義。

「人子降臨時的情形將像挪亞的時代，人們吃喝嫁娶，一直到挪亞進入方舟那天，洪水來了，毀滅了他們；

祂還藉著聖靈向那些監獄中的靈魂傳道，他們就是從前在挪亞造方舟、上帝耐心等候人們悔改的時代中那些不肯信的人。當時進入方舟，從洪水中得救的人很少，只有八個人。

亞當的第七代子孫以諾曾經針對這些人說預言：「看啊！主率領祂千萬的聖者一同降臨，要審判所有的人，按不虔不敬的罪人所行的惡事和他們褻瀆上帝的話定他們的罪。」

人子降臨時的情形就像挪亞的時代。洪水來臨之前，人們吃吃喝喝，男婚女嫁，一直到挪亞進方舟那天；他們懵然不知，直到洪水來把他們全沖走了。人子降臨時的情形也是這樣。

難道你要走惡人的古道，步他們的後塵？他們死期未到便已夭逝，他們的根基被洪濤捲走。

耶和華對挪亞說：「你和你一家都進入方舟，因為這個世代只有你在我眼中是義人。潔淨的動物，你要每樣帶七公七母，不潔淨的動物每樣帶一公一母，飛鳥每樣帶七公七母，叫牠們以後可以在地上繁衍後代。因為七天之後，我要在地上降雨四十晝夜，毀滅我所造的一切生靈。」凡耶和華所吩咐的，挪亞都照辦了。洪水氾濫的那一年，挪亞正好六百歲。挪亞與妻子、兒子們和兒媳們都進了方舟，躲避洪水。潔淨的動物、不潔淨的動物、飛禽和地上的一切爬蟲，都一公一母成對地到挪亞那裡，進了方舟，正如上帝對挪亞的吩咐。那七天過後，洪水在地上氾濫起來。挪亞六百歲那年的二月十七日，所有深淵的泉源都裂開了，天上的水閘也打開了，地上傾盆大雨降了四十晝夜。那天，挪亞與他的兒子閃、含和雅弗，還有挪亞的妻子和三個兒媳婦都進了方舟。所有的野獸、牲畜、地上的爬蟲和飛鳥都按種類進入方舟。這些動物都一公一母成對地到挪亞那裡，進入方舟，正如上帝對挪亞的吩咐。耶和華關上了方舟的門。

人類在地上逐漸增多，生了女兒。上帝的兒子們看見人的女兒漂亮，就隨意選來做妻子。耶和華說：「人既然是血肉之軀，我的靈不會永遠住在人的裡面，然而人還可以活一百二十年。」從那時起，地上出現了一些巨人，他們是上古有名的勇士，是上帝的兒子和人的女兒所生的後代。耶和華看見人罪惡深重，心中終日思想惡事，就後悔在地上造了人，心裡傷痛，說：「我要把所造的人從地上除掉，連同一切飛禽走獸和爬蟲都除掉，我後悔造了他們。」只有挪亞在耶和華面前蒙恩。
