But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

無此者則盲、僅視所近、已忘舊罪之潔、

無此則盲於心、視不及遠、其受潔去舊罪、皆忘之矣、

人若無此、則如目矇、視不及遠、忘其舊日之罪已潔、

凡不具此等美德者、無異短視淺識之心盲、而自忘其舊罪已蒙滌除矣。

But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

But what if these things don’t describe someone at all? Then that person can’t see very well. In fact, they are blind. They have forgotten that their past sins have been washed away.

For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.

For the one who lacks these qualities is blind or short sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

But concerning the one who lacks such things– he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing of his past sins.

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?God forbid. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

For when they speak great swelling[ words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh,[ through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The like figure whereunto[ even] baptism doth also now save us( not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

And[ some] of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
