The officer assisting the king said to the man of God,“ That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied,“ You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!”

扶王之軍長謂上帝僕曰、即耶和華啟牖於天、豈能有此事乎、以利沙曰、爾必目睹、惟不得食、○

王之近臣、告上帝之僕曰、如耶和華破天之隙、可得此、否則不然。曰、爾可目睹、惟不得食。○

有一將、王倚其手者、謂神人曰、雖主使天啟口、亦不能有此事、神人曰、爾將目睹、惟不得食、○

The officer on whose arm the king was leaning said to the man of God,“ Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?”“ You will see it with your own eyes,” answered Elisha,“ but you will not eat any of it!”

The king was leaning on an officer’s arm. The officer spoke to the man of God. The officer said,“ Suppose the Lord opens the sky and pours down food on us. Even if he does, could what you are saying really happen?”“ You will see it with your own eyes,” answered Elisha.“ But you won’t eat any of it!”

Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God,“ If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said,“ You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

Then the captain, the king’s right-hand man, responded to the man of God,“ Look, even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” Elisha announced,“ You will in fact see it with your own eyes, but you won’t eat any of it.”

The royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning responded to the man of God and said,“ Even if the Lord were to make windows in heaven, could this thing happen?” Then he said,“ Behold, you are going to see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it.”

So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said,“ Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said,“ In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if Jehovah should make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

Then the captain, the king’s right-hand man, responded to the man of God,“ Look, even if the Lord were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” Elisha announced,“ You will in fact see it with your own eyes, but you won’t eat any of it.”

Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold,[ if] the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see[ it] with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

An officer who was the king’s right-hand man responded to the prophet,“ Look, even if the LORD made it rain by opening holes in the sky, could this happen so soon?” Elisha said,“ Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of the food!”

Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said,“ Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?” He said,“ Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,“ I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!

When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the underground waters erupted from the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky.

True, some of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful?

Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said,“ Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.”

They even spoke against God himself, saying,“ God can’t give us food in the wilderness.Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out, but he can’t give his people bread and meat.”When the Lord heard them, he was furious. The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob. Yes, his anger rose against Israel,

Again and again they tested God’s patience and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

But Moses responded to the Lord,“ There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say,‘ I will give them meat for a whole month!’Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!”

And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness?And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria, and Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah. Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.”

But go up to Pisgah Peak, and look over the land in every direction. Take a good look, but you may not cross the Jordan River.

The king appointed his officer to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out. So everything happened exactly as the man of God had predicted when the king came to his house.The man of God had said to the king,“ By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost one piece of silver.”The king’s officer had replied,“ That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” And the man of God had said,“ You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!”And so it was, for the people trampled him to death at the gate!
