“ What?” his servant exclaimed.“ Feed a hundred people with only this?” But Elisha repeated,“ Give it to the people so they can eat, for this is what the Lord says: Everyone will eat, and there will even be some left over!”

But his attendant said,“ How am I to serve this to a hundred men?” Nevertheless he said,“ Give them to the people that they may eat, for this is what the Lord says:‘ They shall eat and have some left over.’ ”

But his servant said,“ What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?” He said again,“ Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord:‘ They shall eat and have some left over.’”

“ You give them something to eat,” he told them.“ We have no more than five loaves and two fish,” they said,“ unless we go and buy food for all these people.”

“ There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish— but what are they for so many?”

Everyone ate and was satisfied. They picked up twelve baskets full of leftover pieces.

“ When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you collect?”“ Seven,” they said.

“ You give them something to eat,” he responded. They said to him,“ Should we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”He asked them,“ How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” When they found out they said,“ Five, and two fish.”Then he instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.

His disciples answered him,“ Where can anyone get enough bread here in this desolate place to feed these people?”

“ They don’t need to go away,” Jesus told them.“ You give them something to eat.”“ But we only have five loaves and two fish here,” they said to him.

Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks he distributed them to those who were seated— so also with the fish, as much as they wanted.When they were full, he told his disciples,“ Collect the leftovers so that nothing is wasted.”So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces from the five barley loaves that were left over by those who had eaten.

Everyone ate and was filled. They picked up twelve baskets of leftover pieces.

Aware of this, Jesus said,“ You of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves that you do not have bread?Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you collected?Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you collected?

The disciples said to him,“ Where could we get enough bread in this desolate place to feed such a crowd?”“ How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked them.“ Seven,” they said,“ and a few small fish.”
