Now Gehazi went on ahead of them. He placed the staff on the child’s face, but there was no sound or response. When he came back to Elisha he told him,“ The child did not wake up.”

Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him,“ The boy has not awakened.”

Gehazi went on ahead. He laid Elisha’s walking stick on the boy’s face. But there wasn’t any sound. The boy didn’t move at all. So Gehazi went back to Elisha. He told him,“ The boy hasn’t awakened.”

So Saul asked God,“ Should I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he did not answer him that day.

So they took a bull, as he had suggested, and prepared it. They invoked the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying,“ Baal, answer us.” But there was no sound and no answer. They jumped around on the altar they had made.

For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says:“ Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”

When he entered he said to them,“ Why are you distressed and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.”

He answered them,“ You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me.”So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell on the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.Jesus asked his father,“ How long has this been happening to him?” And he said,“ From childhood.It has often thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”Then Jesus said to him,“‘ If you are able?’ All things are possible for the one who believes.”Immediately the father of the boy cried out and said,“ I believe; help my unbelief!”Now when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it,“ Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”It shrieked, threw him into terrible convulsions, and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said,“ He is dead!”But Jesus gently took his hand and raised him to his feet, and he stood up.Then, after he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately,“ Why couldn’t we cast it out?”He told them,“ This kind can come out only by prayer.”

So Saul inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him– not by dreams nor by Urim nor by the prophets.

But some itinerant Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by evil spirits, saying,“ I sternly warn you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”( Now seven sons of a man named Sceva, a Jewish high priest, were doing this.)But the evil spirit replied to them,“ I know about Jesus and I am acquainted with Paul, but who are you?”Then the man who was possessed by the evil spirit jumped on them and beat them all into submission. He prevailed against them so that they fled from that house naked and wounded.This became known to all who lived in Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks; fear came over them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was praised.

“ Son of man, these men have erected their idols in their hearts and placed the obstacle leading to their iniquity right before their faces. Should I really allow them to seek me?

I brought him to your disciples, but they were not able to heal him.”Jesus answered,“ You unbelieving and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him here to me.”Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said,“ Why couldn’t we cast it out?”He told them,“ It was because of your little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain,‘ Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you.”

Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake– some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.

so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor arise from their sleep.

Throughout the afternoon they were in an ecstatic frenzy, but there was no sound, no answer, and no response.
