Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him,“ The boy has not awakened.”

Gehazi went on ahead. He laid Elisha’s walking stick on the boy’s face. But there wasn’t any sound. The boy didn’t move at all. So Gehazi went back to Elisha. He told him,“ The boy hasn’t awakened.”

So Saul inquired of God,“ Should I go after the Philistines? Will you hand them over to Israel?” But God did not answer him that day.

So they took the bull that he gave them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying,“ Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound; no one answered. Then they danced around the altar they had made.

for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said: Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

He went in and said to them,“ Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.”

He replied to them,“ You unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me.”So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, it immediately threw the boy into convulsions. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.“ How long has this been happening to him?” Jesus asked his father.“ From childhood,” he said.“ And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”Jesus said to him,“‘ If you can’? Everything is possible for the one who believes.”Immediately the father of the boy cried out,“ I do believe; help my unbelief!”When Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it,“ You mute and deaf spirit, I command you: Come out of him and never enter him again.”Then it came out, shrieking and throwing him into terrible convulsions. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said,“ He’s dead.”But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.After he had gone into the house, his disciples asked him privately,“ Why couldn’t we drive it out?”And he told them,“ This kind can come out by nothing but prayer.”

He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him in dreams or by the Urim or by the prophets.

Now some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists also attempted to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying,“ I command you by the Jesus that Paul preaches!”Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish high priest, were doing this.The evil spirit answered them,“ I know Jesus, and I recognize Paul— but who are you?”Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, overpowered them all, and prevailed against them, so that they ran out of that house naked and wounded.When this became known to everyone who lived in Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks, they became afraid, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high esteem.

“ Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and have put their sinful stumbling blocks in front of themselves. Should I actually let them inquire of me?

I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”Jesus replied,“ You unbelieving and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”Then Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and from that moment the boy was healed.Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said,“ Why couldn’t we drive it out?”“ Because of your little faith,” he told them.“ For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain,‘ Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, and some to disgrace and eternal contempt.

so people lie down never to rise again. They will not wake up until the heavens are no more; they will not stir from their sleep.

All afternoon they kept on raving until the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no sound; no one answered, no one paid attention.
