Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.

Then the king of Moab took his oldest son. He was the son who would become the next king of Moab. But the king offered his son as a sacrifice on the city wall. That shocked and terrified the men of Israel. So they pulled back and returned to their own land.

Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

耶和華豈喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？我豈可為自己的過犯獻我的長子，為自己的罪惡獻我所親生的嗎？」

你不可向耶和華－你的上帝這樣做，因為他們向他們的神明做了耶和華所憎恨、所厭惡的一切事，甚至將自己的兒女用火焚燒，獻給他們的神明。

我從亞捫人那裏平平安安回來的時候，無論誰先從我家門出來迎接我，就要歸給耶和華，我必將他獻上作為燔祭。」

你拿你為我所生的兒女獻給它們吞噬。你的淫亂豈是小事？

耶和華如此說：「摩押三番四次犯罪，把以東王的骸骨焚燒成灰，我必不撤銷對它的懲罰。

他們把自己的兒女祭祀鬼魔，流無辜人的血，就是自己兒女的血，用他們祭祀迦南的偶像，那地就被血玷污了。

掃羅說：「我們要在夜裏下去追趕非利士人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不給他們留下一人。」眾百姓說：「你看怎樣好就做吧！」祭司說：「我們要先在這裏親近上帝。」掃羅求問上帝說：「我可以下去追趕非利士人嗎？你把他們交在以色列人手裏嗎？」這日上帝沒有回答他。掃羅說：「百姓中的眾領袖，你們都要近前來到這裏，查明今日這罪是怎樣發生的。我指着拯救以色列的永生的耶和華起誓，就是我兒子約拿單犯了罪，他也必被處死。」但眾百姓中無人回答他。掃羅對以色列眾人說：「你們站在一邊，我與我兒子約拿單也站在一邊。」百姓對掃羅說：「你看怎樣好就做吧！」掃羅向耶和華－以色列的上帝禱告說：「求你指示正確的答案。」抽中的是掃羅和約拿單，百姓盡都無事。掃羅說：「你們再抽籤，看是我，還是我兒子約拿單。」抽中的是約拿單。掃羅對約拿單說：「你告訴我，你做了甚麼事？」約拿單說：「我只是用手中的杖，以杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗嘗，看哪，我就要死嗎？」掃羅說：「約拿單哪，你一定要死！若不然，願上帝重重懲罰我。」百姓對掃羅說：「約拿單在以色列中大行拯救，豈可死呢？絕對不可！我們指着永生的耶和華起誓，連他的一根頭髮也不可落地，因為他今日與上帝一同做事。」於是百姓救約拿單免了死亡。掃羅上去，不追趕非利士人，非利士人也回本地去了。

於是以色列王生氣，憂悶地回撒瑪利亞，到自己的宮去了。

上帝說：「你要帶你的兒子，就是你所愛的獨子以撒，往摩利亞地去，在我指示你的一座山上，把他獻為燔祭。」

過了兩個月，她回到父親那裏，父親就照所許的願向她行了。她從來沒有親近男人。於是以色列中有個風俗，

看哪，一個先知靠近以色列王亞哈，說：「耶和華如此說：『這一大羣人你看見了嗎？看哪，今日我必把他們交在你手裏，你就知道我是耶和華。』」

亞伯拉罕舉目觀看，看哪，一隻公綿羊兩角纏在灌木叢中。亞伯拉罕就去牽了那隻公綿羊，獻為燔祭，代替他的兒子。

有神人靠近，對以色列王說：「耶和華如此說：『亞蘭人既說我－耶和華是山神，不是平原之神，我必將這一大羣人全都交在你手中，你們就知道我是耶和華。』」
