At this, all the people from the least to the greatest, together with the army officers, fled to Egypt for fear of the Babylonians.

於是加利亞的兒子約哈難和眾將軍跟眾民都不聽從永恆主叫他們住在猶大地的話。加利亞的兒子約哈難和眾將軍便帶領了猶大所有餘剩之民、就是從被放逐到的各國回來、住在猶大地的男人、婦人、幼童、和王的女兒們、跟護衛長尼布撒拉旦所留在沙番的孫子亞希甘的兒子基大利那裏的眾人和神言人耶利米、以及尼利亞的兒子巴錄；這些人就進了埃及地，因為他們不聽從永恆主的聲音；他們逕自去到答比匿。

而說：「不，我們要進的是埃及地，在那裏我們不至於聽到戰爭，號角的聲音不至於聽到，糧食也不至於鬧饑荒；就在那裏我們要居住着」，那麼、猶大餘剩之民哪，你們現在就要聽永恆主的話哦。萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：你們若硬着頭皮要進埃及，去寄居在那裏，那麼你們所怕的刀劍就會在埃及地那裏趕上你們；你們所恐懼的饑荒就會緊跟着你們到埃及那裏，使你們死在那裏。凡硬着頭皮要進埃及，而寄居在那裏的人、都必因刀劍饑荒或瘟疫而死，必沒有一人能殘存、而逃脫我所要降與他們的災禍。『因為萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說；我怎樣將我的怒氣烈怒倒在耶路撒冷的居民身上，你們進埃及時，我也必怎樣將我的烈怒倒在你們身上，使你們成了令人咒罵、令人驚駭、令人咒詛羞辱的對象，以致你們不得再見這地方。猶大餘剩之民哪，永恆主曾對你們說：「不要進埃及去。」如今你們要確實地知道我今日已警告你們了。你們作錯了事以自害了；因為你們請我去見永恆主你們的上帝，說：願你為我們禱告永恆主我們的上帝，照永恆主我們的上帝所說的一切話告訴我們，我們都必照樣遵行，我今日將永恆主差遣我到你們這裏來說的一切話告訴你們，你們對永恆主你們的上帝的聲音卻一句也沒有聽從。如今呢、你們要確實知道：你們在所想要去寄居的地方、是必因刀劍饑荒或瘟疫而死的。』

這樣、以實瑪利擊殺了亞希甘的兒子基大利和約哈拿從基遍所帶回來的男人、就是軍兵、婦女、幼童和太監、以後，加利亞的兒子約哈難和跟着他的眾將軍、便將所有餘剩之民、就是尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利從米斯巴所擄了去的人民，都奪回來。他們去到靠近伯利恆的基羅特金罕住下，想要進埃及去；這是因迦勒底人的緣故；因為他們懼怕迦勒底人，因為尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利擊殺了亞希甘的兒子基大利，就是巴比倫王所立為總督來管理這地的。
