巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒上來攻擊他，用銅鍊鎖着他，要將他帶到巴比倫去。尼布甲尼撒又將永恆主殿裏一部份的器皿帶到巴比倫，放在巴比倫他的宮殿裏。約雅敬其餘的事、他所行可厭惡的事、以及所有非議他的事：都寫在以色列和猶大《諸王記》上呢。他兒子約雅斤接替他作王。約雅斤登極的時候十八歲；他在耶路撒冷作王三個月零十天；他行了永恆主所看為壞的事。到了年頭、尼布甲尼撒差遣了人將約雅斤帶到巴比倫，連同永恆主殿裏珍寶的器皿都帶去；他就立約雅斤的叔叔西底家作王來管理猶大和耶路撒冷。西底家登極的時候二十一歲；他在耶路撒冷作王十一年。他行了永恆主他的上帝所看為壞的事；不在神言人耶利米面前自己謙卑，雖然耶利米是奉永恆主的命令來說話的。並且呢，尼布甲尼撒王曾叫他指着上帝來起誓，他也背叛了那王；硬着脖子，心裏頑固，不歸向永恆主以色列的上帝。不但如此，眾祭司領袖和人民也大大地不忠實，像外國人所行一切可憎惡的事那樣；他們污瀆了永恆主的殿、就是永恆主在耶路撒冷所分別為聖的。永恆主他們列祖的上帝因為顧惜他自己的人民和居所，便又及時又屢次地警告、由他的使者經手傳出話來警告他們。他們卻直戲笑上帝的使者，藐視上帝的話，直譏誚他的神言人，以致永恆主向他人民發烈怒、到無法救治。因此永恆主使迦勒底人的王上來攻擊他們，就在他們聖所的殿裏用刀殺了他們的壯丁，不顧惜壯丁或處女、老邁的或衰弱的；永恆主把這一切人都交在迦勒底王手裏。迦勒底王將上帝殿裏所有的器皿、無論大小、和永恆主殿裏的寶物、以及王和大臣們的寶物、都帶到巴比倫去。迦勒底人燒了上帝的殿，拆毁了耶路撒冷的城牆，用火燒了城裏所有的宮堡，將城裏所有寶貴的器皿都毁壞了。凡脫離刀劍的殘存者、迦勒底王都使他們流亡到巴比倫，去做他和他子孫的奴僕，直到波斯國執掌國政的時候。這是要成就永恆主的話、由耶利米口中說出來的、說：直到這地享滿了安息為止；因為儘這地荒涼的日子，這地總是守着安息，直守滿了七十年。
