He went up to the temple of the Lord with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets— all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord.

And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord.

希勒家大祭司对书记沙番说：“我在耶和华的殿里找到了一卷律法书。”他把书卷交给沙番；沙番就阅读那书卷。

我又看见死了的人，无论大小，都站在宝座前。案卷都展开了，还有另一卷，就是生命册，也展开了。死了的人都凭着这些案卷所记载的，照着他们所行的受审判。

他们带着耶和华的律法书，在犹大教训人；他们走遍犹大各城，在民间教训人。

“你们要把这律法书，放在耶和华你们的神的约柜旁，可以在那里作反对你们的见证，

老少尊卑都在那里，奴仆脱离主人的辖制。

那天四分之一的时间，他们站在自己的地方，宣读耶和华他们的神的律法书；另外四分之一的时间，他们认罪和敬拜耶和华他们的神。

然而，我得到神的帮助，直到今日还是站得稳，向尊卑老幼作见证，我所讲的都是众先知和摩西所论的将来必成的事，

然后击打那些门外的人，使他们无论老少，都眼目昏眩，以致找不到门口。

这些日子过了，王又为所有在书珊城的人民，无论尊卑大小，在御园的院子里摆设筵席七天。

他们把城里的妇女，无论大小（按照《七十士译本》，“城里的妇女，无论大小”作“妇女和城里所有的人，无论大小”）都掳走了。他们没有杀人，都带着他们从原路回去了。

运到那里以后，耶和华的手攻击那城，引起很大的恐慌。他击打全城的人，不分老幼，使痔疮在他们中间蔓延。

那时，他们宣读摩西的书给众民听，见书上写着说：亚扪人和摩押人永远不可进入神的会，

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城里。（《马索拉文本》以本句为7:73下半节）那时众民如同一人，在水门前的广场聚集，请经学家以斯拉把耶和华藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法书带来。七月初一日，以斯拉祭司把律法书带到所有听了能明白的男女会众面前。在水门前面的广场，从清早到中午，向众男女和听了能明白的人宣读出来。众民都侧耳倾听这律法书的话。经学家以斯拉站在为这事特制的木台上；站在他右边的，有玛他提雅、示玛、亚奈雅、乌利亚、希勒家和玛西雅；站在他左边的，有毗大雅、米沙利、玛基雅、哈顺、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亚和米书兰。以斯拉在众人眼前展开那书卷；他高高地站在众民以上，他把书卷展开，众民就站起来。以斯拉称颂耶和华至大的神，众民举手应声说：“阿们！阿们！”然后跪下，脸伏在地，敬拜耶和华。然后利未人耶书亚、巴尼、示利比、雅悯、亚谷、沙比太、荷第雅、玛西雅、基利他、亚撒利雅、约撒拔、哈难和毗莱雅就教导他们明白律法。众人一直站在原处聆听。他们宣读神的律法，把意义清楚翻译出来，使众民明白所宣读的。

不寻求耶和华以色列的神的，无论男女老幼，都必处死。

敬畏耶和华的，无论大小尊卑，他都必赐福。

约柜里面只有两块石版，这两块石版在以色列人出埃及地以后，耶和华与他们立约的时候，摩西在何烈山放在那里的。
