He built altars in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ In Jerusalem I will put my Name.”

May you watch over this Temple night and day, this place where you have said,‘ My name will be there.’ May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place.

He is the one who will build a house— a temple— for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever.

They have set up their abominable idols right in my own Temple, defiling it.

King Ahaz then went to Damascus to meet with King Tiglath pileser of Assyria. While he was there, he took special note of the altar. Then he sent a model of the altar to Uriah the priest, along with its design in full detail.Uriah followed the king’s instructions and built an altar just like it, and it was ready before the king returned from Damascus.When the king returned, he inspected the altar and made offerings on it.He presented a burnt offering and a grain offering, he poured out a liquid offering, and he sprinkled the blood of peace offerings on the altar.Then King Ahaz removed the old bronze altar from its place in front of the Lord’s Temple, between the entrance and the new altar, and placed it on the north side of the new altar.He told Uriah the priest,“ Use the new altar for the morning sacrifices of burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, and the burnt offerings of all the people, as well as their grain offerings and liquid offerings. Sprinkle the blood from all the burnt offerings and sacrifices on the new altar. The bronze altar will be for my personal use only.”Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz commanded him.

The Lord said to him,“ I have heard your prayer and your petition. I have set this Temple apart to be holy— this place you have built where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.

Rather, you must seek the Lord your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes— the place where his name will be honored.

He chose instead the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion, which he loved.There he built his sanctuary as high as the heavens, as solid and enduring as the earth.

“ Build for me an altar made of earth, and offer your sacrifices to me— your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep and goats, and your cattle. Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you.

For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem; he has desired it for his home.“ This is my resting place forever,” he said.“ I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
