正月初十，百姓从约旦河上来，就在耶利哥东边的吉甲安营。

耶和华说：“你出来站在山上，在耶和华面前。”看哪，耶和华从那里经过。在耶和华面前有烈风大作，山崩石裂，耶和华却不在风中；风后有地震，耶和华也不在其中；

耶和华对约书亚说：“我今日将埃及的羞辱从你们身上除掉了。”因此，那地方名叫吉甲，直到今日。

又膏宁示的孙子耶户作以色列王，并膏亚伯‧米何拉人沙法的儿子以利沙作先知接续你。将来逃过哈薛之刀的，必被耶户所杀；逃过耶户之刀的，必被以利沙所杀。但我在以色列中留下七千人，是未曾向巴力屈膝，未曾亲吻巴力的。”于是，以利亚离开那里走了，遇见沙法的儿子以利沙；他正在耕田，在他前头有十二对牛，自己赶着第十二对。以利亚经过他，把自己的外衣搭在他身上。以利沙就离开牛，跑到以利亚那里，说：“请你让我先与父母吻别，然后我就跟随你。”以利亚对他说：“因我对你所做的事，你去吧，然后回来。”以利沙离开他回去，宰了一对牛，用套牛的器具煮肉给百姓吃，随后就起身跟随以利亚，服事他。

耶稣被接上升的日子将到，他决定面向耶路撒冷走去。

他们边走边说话的时候，看哪，有火马和火焰车出现，把二人隔开，以利亚就乘旋风升天去了。

那时，耶和华从旋风中回答约伯说：

两位先知听见有大声音从天上对他们说：“上这里来。”他们就驾着云上了天，他们的仇敌也看见了。

以利沙回到吉甲，那地正有饥荒。先知的门徒坐在他面前，他吩咐仆人说：“你把大锅放在火上，给先知的门徒熬汤。”

恐怕我一离开你，耶和华的灵就把你提到我所不知道的地方去。这样，我去告诉亚哈，他若找不到你，就必杀我。仆人是自幼敬畏耶和华的。

说了这些话，他们正看的时候，他被接上升，有一朵云彩从他们眼前把他接去。

他自己在旷野走了一日的路程，来到一棵罗腾树下，就坐在那里求死，说：“耶和华啊，现在够了！求你取我的性命吧，因为我不比我的祖先好。”
