Then the Lord said to Joshua,“ Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So the place has been called Gilgal to this day.

Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu.Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel— all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him.Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah.“ Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said,“ and then I will come with you.”“ Go back,” Elijah replied.“ What have I done to you?”So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.

As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.

Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them,“ Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on.

Elisha returned to Gilgal and there was a famine in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant,“ Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these prophets.”

I don’t know where the Spirit of the Lord may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lord since my youth.

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die.“ I have had enough, Lord,” he said.“ Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”
