Now it came about, when the Lord was about to bring Elijah up by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah left Gilgal with Elisha.

You shall also anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel meholah as prophet in your place.And it shall come about that the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death.Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat while he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah came over to him and threw his cloak on him.Then he left the oxen behind and ran after Elijah, and said,“ Please let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you.” And he said to him,“ Go back, for what have I done to you?”So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them, and cooked their meat with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he got up and followed Elijah and served him.

When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem;

And as they were walking along and talking, behold, a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and they separated the two of them. Then Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.

Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind and said,

And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them,“ Come up here.” And they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.

When Elisha returned to Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting in front of him, he said to his servant,“ Put on the large pot and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”

And it will come about when I leave you that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to where I do not know; so when I come and inform Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me, though I, your servant, have feared the Lord from my youth.

And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were watching, and a cloud took Him up, out of their sight.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree; and he asked for himself to die, and said,“ Enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
